Speak the Truth

When you fear that change is impossible, complicated and more than you can bear, remember the story of Isabella.

While still a child, Isabella was sold into slavery. She was beaten by her master regularly. She bore thirteen children who were also sold into slavery.

In 1827 she ran away from the only life she ever knew and into a life of total uncertainty. A black woman, her only credentials were that of being a slave. While spending an extended period with a spiritual extremist, she reinvented her life and gave herself a new name: Sojourner Truth.

Truth traveled the country speaking to crowds who despised her because she spoke about the equality of women. In a famous speech she said:

“If de first women God ever made was strong enough to turn de world upside down all alone, dese women together ought to be able to turn it back, and get it right side up again! And now dey is asking to do it; de men better let 'em.”

Her nobility was remarkable, and so is yours. And that's the truth!
