Your Children Watch You

When your children feel like a responsibility, how would they know?

Your whole life is jammed with responsibilities. Even when you want to
run from them, they gather around you begging for your undivided attention.
So much of the time, life feels like a no-choice experience. Your children watch
you waiting to have fun, but they learn quickly that your life is about
responsibility, and so are they.

To unburden you, to try and help remove the sting of unhappiness they feel
surrounds you, they keep their distance.

One hot day your children say, “Mommy, we saved our money to buy you a hot
fudge sundae. We know how much you will love it.”

As you all dove into the chocolate and cream, you thought about all the things
you could be doing. Suddenly, your children laughed saying, “Mommy, you
look delicious with chocolate and cream around your mouth.” And without
hesitation, your chocolate and cream mouth kissed each of them.

And they didn’t mind because it was the you they missed.
